Golden Week 7 – Tokyo 2

I could write 1,924.5 posts on Tokyo and it wouldn’t be enough. I broke mine down because we were there for two days and these posts take awhile to make. I start this post with details from the night before, when we went to Shinjuku, which is famous for gothic fashions and really “interesting” people. This part of the city is very popular with young people and the fashionable, brand-name stores reflect that.

To be honest, I found the same styles, stores, and things all over the city. Whatever Harajuku had that was special, other places had other things that were different and just as special. But it doesn’t matter, because it was still amazing. The area is popular for advertising and brand name stores. You can see a lot of the advertising all lit up here:

This entrance to a mall was also pretty cool as the escalator went up through a mosaic of mirrors.

And this is a street famous for young people’s fashion.

We stopped for dinner at a yakiniku place. “Yakiniku” means grilled meat, so we paid for an all-you-can-eat/drink tab and started eating!

This is cow tongue. It’s actually delicious. One of my favorites!

We left the restaurant when it closed and took our transport back to the hotel. It’s kind of interesting here, because the all-you-can-eat/drink deal is great for us as foreigners. Most Asians can’t process alcohol like Westerners can, so usually the waitstaff will just look at you with bigger and bigger eyes as you order beer after beer after beer. They watch you. It’s like a performance to drink here and people always want to drink with you to see if they can keep up!

Kathy and Trev met some colorful characters on the train home and we went to bed to get ready for the next day…
